Peter Block Inspires NJOD series

PETER BLOCK’s presentation at  ASD 2013 was an engaging and relevant discussion centered around his work, “Stewardship”.  The intriguing presentation struck a special note to the OD professionals in attendance and inspired a new series of Monthly Meeting speakers as well as the launch of the NJOD Workshop Series.

Stewardship” addresses how employees are custodians:  being deeply accountable for the outcomes of your organization without acting to control or take care of others. This focuses on individual and team ownership and responsibility. It is about the redistribution of power for the sake of the next generation and the well-being of the whole.

The session with Peter Block enabled participants to explore ways to shift our thinking about leadership and management practices. This means giving employees choice by replacing control, consistency, and predictability with partnership, variability and surprise. He also led the group to explore questions of purpose and how institutions can better serve their communities in more profound ways than giving money and participating in charity ventures.

Attendees each received a copy of his book, STEWARDSHIP, which was released in April 2013 as an update of his popular earlier version of the acclaimed text.
